Over the years, I have found that many people just don’t like to be photographed. I get it - we all perceive ourselves in a certain way, and a well taken photograph, candid or posed, exposes (pun intended!) who we really are and how the world sees us. Intimidating is a word that comes to mind. What has made me successful and blessed with amazing clients is my ability to immediately put people at ease, make the camera go away, and just have fun. The smiles and the love will always shine through.

All sessions with me include a pre-production phone call or visit to discuss location options, attire specifics, and goals the client wants to achieve during the shoot. The actual studio or on location shoot usually lasts between 30mins to 1.5hrs. Post-session, I gather all the images and purge any and all unflattering expressions and angles, and professionally edit the remaining images. Via an online gallery, the client will select their favorite digital images from the best captures of the shoot. Within 72hrs., the selected images are delivered to the client in high resolution .jpegs via Dropbox. The client will enjoy a full copyright release of their selected, edited digital images.

I offer professional headshots and branding shoots with the goal of enhancing the client’s business and social media image. Whether in my studio or on-location, I ‘coach’ the client on the basics of posture, hand and arm placement, smiling, or not, and just how to relax in front of the camera. The client will select the best image(s), and I can custom retouch the images per the clients discretion (smile lines need mellowing???). The final high resolution .jpeg file(s) readied for all web and print needs will be emailed or Dropbox’d to the client within 48hrs. The client is welcomed (and encouraged!) to use multiple outfits and looks in order to get that perfect image.

Hi there… My name is John Andrew Murphy a.k.a. Johnny Murph, Murph, or just plain JAM. I answer to any and all. I am a people and places photographer located in Marin County. My creative journey started with my sense of sound and the ensuing lessons on how to read music and play a tune. As a teenager of the 80's, my heros were guitar players - Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhoads, Jerry Garcia - and my bedroom walls were adorned with poster size images of these musicians. Years later, I got a Canon film camera for Christmas, and I realized immediately that my sense of sight brought me as much joy and wonder as strumming my six string. And that is where I am today creatively - strumming chords and clicking shutters.

Still photographs play an essential role in all of our lives, and I work to make those images the best and longest lasting they can be. I am all about quality and service, whether I am capturing family memories, coaching a sitter for a professional headshot, printing a client's past and present family memories, scanning and printing childhood memories, or teaching others how to capture and manipulate future memories.

PAPER, FILM, SLIDE SCANNING AND RETOUCHING

Turn those old and precious analog images into digital files. I can scan paper prints, film and slides and deliver to you a .jpg or .tif file via email or Dropbox. These digital files can then be shared with friends and family, and stored electronically for preservation and archiving.  I also offer retouching, editing and cleaning of your faded, wrinkled, and damaged images, whether a torn piece of paper or scratched film negative.

PRICING:

• High resolution flat bed scanning for film negatives, slides and paper sizes up to 16x20"*: Starting at $15/scan for 1200dpi on up to 9600dpi.

• Retouching, editing and cleaning of old paper prints, film and slides: $100/hr broken into 15min increments** (or $25/every 15 min.)

*Large paper prints are scanned in sections and then stitched in the digital darkroom. This process involves more time and labor, and the results are stunning.

**The average editing time is approximately 30mins (or $50) based on previous work.
